VEP Healthcare is currently seeking Emergency Medicine Physicians and Assistant Medical Director to join our team at Mercy Hospitals of Bakersfield
The Facility
  • Mercy Hospital Downtown's volume is 42,000+ patients annually
  • Mercy Hospital Southwest's volume is 54,000+ patients annually
  • Full complement of back-up call panel specialists
  • Back-up panel of specialists available

  • 10-hour Physician shifts and 12-hour APC shifts

  • Compensation and Perks
  • Physicians are Independent Contractors with a base rate per hour and flexible schedules.
  • Leadership experience required for Assistant Medical Director position.
  • Sign on bonus options or relocation assistance with a two-year full time commitment to VEP at Madera Community Hospital.
  • Physicians also enjoy the benefit of becoming a shareholder after 150 hours worked which allows them to be actively involved in the governance of the company.

  • Physician Requirements
  • California Medical License
  • DEA License with California registration
  • Board Certified or Board Eligible in Emergency Medicine, Family Medicine or Internal Medicine
  • If not Board Certified, must provide proof of current ACLS certification
  • Documentation of active practice for at least three (3) years in an emergency department
    with a census equal to or exceeding 3,000 patient visits annually (which may include residency training)

  • Founded in 1910 by the Sisters of Mercy, Mercy Hospital Downtown is licensed for 144 acute care beds, including a 31-bed medical unit, a 31-bed surgical unit, a 31-bed telemetry unit, a 29-bed guarded care unit and a 20-bed adult ICU. The full range of medical and surgical services also includes; a 14-station, Level II Base-Station Emergency Department; six surgical suites; post anesthesia care unit; ambulatory and prep units; outpatient surgery and outpatient GI laboratory. Mercy Hospital Downtown is also home to the area's only inpatient oncology unit.
  • Bakersfield is located in Kern County, the heart of California, nestled between San Francisco and Los Angeles. Bakersfield's population is approximately 365,000, making it the ninth-most populous city in California. The Bakersfield - Delano Metropolitan Statistical Area, which includes all of Kern County, had a 2010 census population of 839,631. (See the Map)

Several companies have moved to Bakersfield because of its inexpensive land and access to the rest of America, as well as international ports in both Los Angeles and Oakland. Other companies have opened regional offices and non-oil/agricultural businesses because of Bakersfield's and Kern County's business-friendly policies.

  • Bakersfield has hundreds of miles of bike paths and lanes and nearly 60 parks, offering locals plenty of opportunities to enjoy the outdoors, including the Sierra Nevada Mountains and some of California's expansive national forests. The city is also the birthplace of the country music genre known as the Bakersfield sound.
